Please read the following: Theology of Ministry
Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion:
In every celebration of the Eucharist, there should be a sufficient number of ministers of Holy Communion so that it may be distributed in a reverent and orderly manner. When the size of the congregation requires it and there is an insufficient number of ordinary ministers, the priest may call upon and be assisted by other faithful, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, lay persons who have been deputed for this purpose. (GIRM 162)
Commissioning:
When the pastor is satisfied that a parishioner meets these requirements, the next step is to attend a training session provided by the Diocese. Then the parishioner is commissioned by the pastor for a period of three years according to the commissioning rite. This training and commissioning must be renewed every three years.
Ministry of Holy Communion to the Sick and Homebound
Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who have been specially trained and commissioned to bring Holy Communion to those unable to attend Mass.
In addition to the requirements listed, those who serve the sick and homebound are now required to follow the safe environment standard by taking Virtus training, and having a background check. Virtus training is offered through the Diocese.
Lectors
At every Mass, readings from Sacred Scripture, except the Gospel which is the function of the deacon or priest if no deacon, are proclaimed by lay people. The Sacred Scripture readings are an element of the greatest importance in the liturgy for through them, God himself speaks to His people. As proclaimers of the Sacred Scriptures, readers are instruments of God; they are people with a deep love of Scripture.
Ushers
Ushers of Ave Maria Catholic Parish are called to serve the parish family as it gathers to worship. To show hospitality, kindness and a spirit of joy in the service of God. Ushers assist with collections, greeting and preparation for the celebration of Holy Mass. New volunteers are welcome.
In addition to the requirements, ushers are now required to follow the safe environment standard by taking Virtus training, and having a background check. Virtus training is offered through the Diocese.
As a registered member of the parish, you are also invited to attend the Women's Society meetings, or the Men's fellowship group, and participate in bible studies, etc/ Please check them out.
